Welcome to the Municipal Archives of Lyngby-Taarbæk: Frieboeshvile

The archives at Frieboeshvile covers the history of the entire Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality alongside its citizens, associations and much more. At the archives we collect, preserve and give access to historical records, pictures and much more.

    The archives

Our collection of records, documents and pictures is massive, and we are continiously working on making it more and more accessible. You can access most of our pictures, and get an overview of our documents, via the website www.arkiv.dk/en

We also have a reading room, which is open for the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 2PM.-4PM. Here you can ask questions, and receive assistance in finding things you need.

    Our exhibition

The archives are based in the old countryhouse of Frieboeshvile from the late 18th century. In the main-building you can see the old rooms, furnished as a countryhouse from the early 19th century, and on the first floor you can visit our temporary exhibitions, that are replaced every half a year. Our exhibitions are in Danish, but they are often light on text and heavy on visuals, why we also encourage all others to give it a visit. It is completely free to visit, and is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 2PM-4PM, and Saturdays 10AM-2PM. You can see our current exhibition here.

    Our events

The Archives host a large selection of events throughout the year for kids and adults alike. Most events are in Danish, some are open for all, and some are specifically in English. You can find an overview of all events in English from Frieboeshvile and other municipal actors here
